2014 WingStock II Details and Images
We just completed our second annual WingStock Poker Run . This years event was a great success and more importantly, a lot of fun.
We had 43 members/family members in attendance. We used the Affordable Inn in Torrey as our Host Hotel. I have to give a shout out to Brandon, the facility manager. He and his family were the definition of "accommodating hosts", they met and exceeded our every need. Dave Heaton and his lovely wife Susan did the leg work behind the event, they planned the ride, arranged the lunch buffet and kept the fun rolling. A big thanks to Dave and Susan for all of their "behind the scenes" work. Chef Steve Peacock provided 2 great meals to say nothing of the Dutch Oven Deserts. The Chocolate Cherry desert A la Mode was a crowd favorite. What Steve does "behind the scenes" is the definition of hard work and dedication. Without his contribution, I am sure the weekend would have suffered. Lastly a tip of the hat to Kathy Barnard, our District Treasurer extraordinaire. Kathy coordinates the Registrations for all of our events, orders the T-shirts we design, orders pins and patches as appropriate all while keeping an eye on the District Bank Account!! Kathy is another member who works behind the scenes to ensure our events turn out as well as possible. A shout out to her "Body Guard" husband Paul for his contributions as well. I suspect I missed a few other contributors and apologize in advance.
Our Poker Run took us out of Torrey and over Boulder Mountain to the "Burr Trail" What a fabulous side trip!!! Back on rt. 12 and over Hogback to Escalante and on to Bryce, where we had lunch at Ruby's. The return ride included a trip around "Fish Lake" where the Fall Colors are beginning to show. We clocked about 275 miles in all for the poker run itself. It appears our 2014 riding season is getting a bit long in the tooth!!
Bruce Johnson took top prize with the best poker hand and 2 "lucky" members split the "worst" hand money.
